Five Areas of Focus For Hot Weather Driving

It is no secret that extremely hot and cold weather can be hard on your vehicle. However, most people don’t know simple tips and tricks they can do to protect their car from the damaging effects of driving in hot weather climates. Below are five areas you should focus on when driving your car in the hot weather this summer.

Engine fluids

Checking to make sure your vehicle has the proper amount of engine fluids is one of the most important parts of maintaining your vehicle. The engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid are all essential fluids in your vehicle’s engine. To ensure your car runs properly and efficiently, make sure to check these fluids often and keep them at the manufacturer’s recommended levels.

Hot weather is often just as hard on your battery as cold weather. To ensure that your battery is functioning to the best of its ability, clean any corrosion from the battery, secure all connections, and assure the battery is safely mounted.

Cooling system

The cooling system in your vehicle helps maintain an ideal engine temperature during operation, regardless of outside conditions. When the weather is hot, your cooling system works hard to maintain the temperature of the vehicle’s engine. The antifreeze in your vehicle should be checked often and changed according to your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations.

Air conditioning

During the summertime, your vehicle’s air conditioning system is put to the test. If the air coming out of the vent isn’t as cold as it once was, consider taking your vehicle in to have the system inspected. You would not want to be caught on a hot day with no air conditioning in your vehicle.

It is important to monitor your vehicle’s tire pressure in hot weather. Underinflated tires are known to cause friction which causes heat. When the weather is already hot, this could lead to the failure of your tires. Overinflated tires are also a problem in the heat. Since heat causes air in a tire to expand, it is important to fill the tires the proper amount.
