April is National #CarCare Month, is Your Car Ready?

Winter can be tough on vehicles- especially when you live in the upper Midwest. Make sure to reward your car for surviving the long, harsh winter by celebrating National #CarCare month! Below are some tips for caring for you vehicle.

Check the Battery

Your vehicle’s battery is responsible for supplying power to the starter and all other electrical components of your vehicle. For this reason, it is important to test your battery and all charging system components. If the test comes back with less than ideal results, it is time to replace the battery in your vehicle.

Inspect the Tires

If your tires are worn down- they can make for poor braking- even if the brakes are in perfect condition. Keep track of when the last time your tires were rotated. This should be done according to your vehicle and tire manufacturers’ recommended rotation pattern. Tire rotation helps extend the life of your tires.

Check all Fluids

Maintaining your vehicle’s fluids is vital to extending the life of your vehicle. Some vital fluids include:

  • Oil
  • Transmission fluid
  • Antifreeze
  • Brake fluid
  • Windshield washer fluid

Check the Brakes

After a long winter, it is important to check the brakes on your vehicle. Brakes are absolutely crucial to your safety and the safety of others. Some trouble signs of damaged brakes include:

  • Grinding or squealing noises
  • Pulling to one side upon hitting the brakes
  • A brake pedal that feels too soft/having to press the brakes all the way to the floor.

Check Wipers and Lighting

Many people overlook the importance of windshield wipers and lights on their vehicle. Having fully functional windshield wipers can be the difference between driving safely and unsafely in a rainstorm. The same goes for lights (headlights, tail lights and brake lights.) When your lights are not working, you are putting yourself and others in danger- not to mention you could get a ticket.
